History Of the Greek Orthodox Community
Prior to the establishment of the Church Community, the Greek School of St Helen Greek opened and operated from Whitehorse Manor School in September 1965. The first president of the school committee was Mrs. Vaughan, who together with the school committee and many parents and other local Greek and Greek Cypriot people felt the need for the establishment of a Church Community in Croydon. They helped to find the first church, St Augustine’s in South Croydon, where the first Greek Orthodox Service was celebrated by Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain Athenagoras. Thus the Greek Orthodox Community of St Constantine and St Helen was established in Croydon on 23rd July 1966.
